You have chosen untapped and wildland in the beautiful Hautes-Laurentides region for the same reasons as Domaine Major inc. has invested in these projects. Nature, the purity of the air, the flora and fauna, the water, the green spaces, it is for all these reasons that we inform you of your responsibility towards the riches and the incredible charm that this region is giving us.
By working closely with experts in biology and civil engineers, we are following the recommendations of the Quebec government's Ministry of the Environment and the Fight against Climate Change. Thanks to these actions, we have discovered wonders offered by nature, rare species, and unique vegetation that must be preserved.
Domaine Major inc. has given itself the mandate to respect and maintain the balance of the territory, therefore, encouraging you to participate in a concrete way in preserving the jewels of these places.
Contact us to know the types of commitments you must take. At Domaine Major, each land has its treasures.
Find here a standard commitment containing the technical sheets of the species to be protected.
Milkweed is an essential plant for the survival of Monarch butterflies, it is its food and its defence.
Butternut is a majestic nut tree that is becoming increasingly rare.
Wood garlic, known for its edible bulbs, is strictly controlled in Quebec.
Hawthorn is a shrub in which Loggerhead shrike nests and feeds.
Monarch butterflies are rare. Indirectly, you can make a very big difference in its survival by retaining its host plant, milkweed. This plant is present on almost all the land in the Hautes-Laurentides, but it is often destroyed because it is considered a weed. Milkweed is the source of food and survival for the Monarch caterpillar. Indeed, this plant harmful to other species makes the butterfly poisonous.
Butternut provides sweet, slightly sweet and oily edible nuts, reminiscent of the buttery taste similar to walnuts. This large, native tree has been protected since the onset of disease caused by a fungus reaching its bark. Healthy trees should definitely not be felled, but rather moved when possible.
Very nice gift to offer to future generations!
Wood garlic is a popular bulb for its fragrant, sweet, and delicate taste. The great chefs know well this jewel of nature, which takes 7 to 10 years to reproduce and grows mainly in maple groves. In Quebec, its trade is prohibited, and the harvest is limited to only 50 bulbs per person, per year. To survive from year to year, a natural colony must contain more than a thousand plants.
Hawthorns are thorny shrubs essential to the survival of the Loggerhead Shrike, a bird that feeds on insects. Without the authorization of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), it is prohibited to cut hawthorns as well as to disturb or destroy nests and their eggs during the nesting period.
Please reach us at info@domainemajor.caif you cannot find an answer to your question.
Although you own your land, Domaine Major inc. and the Ministry of the Environment and the Fight against Climate Change, ask for your commitment to protect these species and thereby contribute to this enchanting place for generations to come.
Also, it is important to properly plan the cleaning and preparation of your land. Therefore, at the request of the ministry, it is crucial that any deforestation be done between September 1 and March 31. This helps protect the birds by reducing the impact of cutting during the indispensable nesting period.
In concrete terms, we are providing you with two plots of land that will remain in its natural state and that serve as conservation areas for species with status. These media allow you to transplant plants such as hawthorn, Milkweed, Wood garlic and Butternut trees if you can't keep them on your land.
Domaine Major inc. is committed to:
YES. The new owners will have to sign a letter of COMMITMENT:
